Bandhavgarh National Park - January 19th to 22nd, 2012

Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the wild life sanctuaries in Madhya Pradesh. The national park is situated at 197 km away north-east of Jabalpur. This wild life park derived its very name from an ancient fort in the area. Bandhawgarh National Park belongs to the Vindhyan mountain ranges of central India and it boasts to have the highest density of tiger population in the country.

During our trip to Bandhavgarh, we will be staying at Monsoon Forest - A conservation lodge at Bandhavgarh National Park Surrounded by forests with breathtaking views of the Bandhavgarh Fort, Monsoon Forest is just a few minutes drive from the Bandhavgarh Tiger reserve, Tala zone

Date Itinerary
January 19th, 2012 We arrive at Monsoon Forest and settle in over a cup of tea. First half of the day we enjoy the lodge and its amazing surroundings. Post Lunch we will leave for our first safari. Back to the lodge by evening, to enjoy the camp fire and have endless discussions which shall continue over dinner.
January 20th & 21st, 2012 Early morning wake up call. After tea and refreshments we will leave for our morning safari with the naturalists and park guides. Come back to the lodge by lunch time to enjoy the amazing dishes cooked specially for us by the chef at the lodge. Post lunch we will leave for another round of safari. Back to the lodge by evening, to enjoy the camp fire and have endless discussions which shall continue over dinner.
January 22nd, 2011 Early morning wake up call. After tea and refreshments we will leave for our morning safari. And come back to the lodge in time for breakfast. Post which we shall relax around at the lodge and then leave to catch our respective trains back.

Tour Cost

INR 18,600 per person on twin sharing basis (for Indian nationals)

(The above cost is for a minimum group size of 4 pax. The cost doesn’t include the costs of getting to Bandhavgarh, since Born Free Escapades members come together for trips from all over the world)

The above cost Includes:

  • 03 Nights 4 Days at Monsoon Forest (Stay)
  • Meals at the lodge as mentioned in the itinerary above
  • 6 Safaris in 4WD
  • All prepaid safaris will be on sharing basis and will be accompanied by a park guide

  • Any personal and incidental expenses
  • Extra safaris into the park
  • To & fro transfers from railway stations or airports (these can be arranged and the cost can be shared among the participants)
  • Rail tickets and air tickets (e-tickets can be arranged as well as long we know well in advance)
  • Services that are not mentioned in Itinerary
  • Tips, laundry and phone calls, alcohol, travel insurance

Cancellation rule

  • If cancelled before December 20, 2011: Cancellation amount will be 25% of the tour cost
  • If cancelled between December 26, 2011: Cancellation amount will be 50% of the tour cost
  • If cancelled after January 1, 2012: Cancellation amount will be 100% of the tour cost
  • Ticket cancellation charges will be as per actual

Important information

  • Check in from 1200 hrs, Check out up to 1200 hrs
  • Any service not described on the itinerary is to be paid additional or locally in the case of services
  • Any changes requested by passengers locally could involve extra costs and such costs are to be paid locally
  • Transportation to reach Monsoon Forest, from various points – Khajuraho, Jabalpur, Umaria, Katni & Jabalpur can be arranged at an extra cost on sharing basis

How to Reach

Bandhavgarh has convenient air and train connections from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta and Bhopal. It is also connected via charter flights to Umaria airport (32 Km) and a charter helicopter service directly to Bandhavgarh.

To reach Bandhavgarh you can travel-

  • By Air: To Khajuraho followed by a 4-hour drive
  • By Air: To Jabalpur followed by a 3½ -hour drive
  • By Train: Overnight To Umaria followed by a 45-minute drive (35 km)
  • By Train: Overnight To Katni followed by a 2½ -hour drive (100 km)
  • By Train: Overnight To Jabalpur followed by a 3½ -hour drive (220 km)

Safari to Gir National Park - January 26th to 29th, 2012


Gir National Park

It is the sole home of the pure Asiatic Lions (Panthera leo persica) and is considered to be one of the most important protected areas in Asia due to its supported species. The only place in the world outside Africa, where the lion can be seen in his natural habitat.

At the park you will also get to see the extremely hospitable , the Maldharis (herders) , whose lifestyle has changed little over the years , and their folklore and traditions are a unique record of the coexistence of humans and lions.

Gir National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary is a 1412 sq km hilly tract of dry deciduous forests. As per the official census, Gir has 411 lions. Sambar and spotted deer (chital), blue bull (nilgai), chousingha (the world's only four-horned antelope), chinkara (Indian gazelle) and wild boar thrive in Gir. Jackal, striped hyena, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat, langur, porcupine, black-naped Indian hare are among the other mammals of Gir. Gir has a large population of marsh crocodile or mugger, which is among the 40 species of reptiles and amphibians recorded in the sanctuary. The park checklist has 250 birds and about 50 other species (including the endangered lesser florican and the saras crane)

Date Itinerary
January 26, 2012 6:00 am We arrive at the lodge. After a hot cup of tea, we check-in to our rooms. Those who are interested can set out for a morning of birding around the lodge which is set amidst a mango orchard.

08:00 am Post an early breakfast, we will head out into the park for wildlife tracking.

01:00 pm Back to the Lodge for lunch and refreshments.

02:30 pm We head back into the park for another amazing round of Safari.

06:00 pm Back to the camp for evening tea and refreshments and discussions by the campfire followed by dinner.
January 27, 2012 05:00 am Wake up call.

06:00 am We leave for safari in the park with naturalists.

10:00 am Back to the camp for refreshments and birding and chilling session around the lodge.

How to Reach

From Delhi:

By Air : The nearest airport with connectivity to Delhi is Ahmedabad about 390 km from the lodge and the drive takes about seven to eight hours depending on the number of stops en route.

By Train : There are trains to Rajkot and then the drive of about 164 km takes three to four hours.

Or one can take the overnight train from Ahmedabad to Junagadh. Details as under –

Somnath Express – Departs Ahmedabad @ 22:00 hours. Arrives Junagadh @ 4:26 hours.

Smnh Jbp Expres (11465) – Departs Junagadh @ 11:36 hours. Arrives Ahmedabad @ 18:25 hours

From Mumbai:

Mumbai has direct flights to Diu Airport, about 112 km from the lodge, and both flights and trains to Rajkot, 164 km from the lodge.

Or one can take the overnight train from Ahmedabad to Junagadh. Details as under –

From Ahmedabad:

There are trains to Junagadh, 60 km from Gir, or Veraval, 40 km from Gir, and the drive takes about one hour from either. There are also trains and buses to Sasan, near the lodge, from Junagadh / Veraval
